Bargaining
The labor movement in this country is at a critical juncture. Now more than ever we need advocates not only for teachers, but students as well. Our bargaining team strives to work cooperatively with the school board and administration to protect your rights and to make those hard decisions that we face.
Jo Ann Applewhite, Bargaining Team

Communication
Emails from the LCEA President directly to my home keep me up to date on negotiations, State Legislation and issues affecting me as a professional teacher.

Legislation
Anytime professionals stand together, their voices and views have greater impact. For educators this is essential in these challenging times. Our schools face budgetary stresses never seen in our lifetimes – partly caused by a faltering economy, and partly from Tallahassee’s neglect. Now is the time for us to be heard clearly in Tallahassee. We must insist that schoolchildren not bear a disproportionate burden of the budget pain. We must insist that reasonable revenue enhancement alternatives exist. Let us stand together and insist that the Florida Legislature increase the tobacco tax to the national average and apply the sales tax fairly by eliminating unreasonable tax exemptions. By joining LCEA, your voice joins a growing chorus of reasonable and concerned professionals fighting for our good cause.
Frank Wood, Bargaining Team

Advocacy
LCEA provides a way for individuals to unite together and have a joint voice when dealing with the school board. LCEA works with teachers in an effort to improve teaching conditions, knowing that their comments and suggestions will not be ignored. In addition, teachers should join LCEA because through the process of collective bargaining, the union provides a balance between the school board and the teachers. One of the ways this is advantageous for union members is that consistent policies are developed that are fair and judicious with appeal procedures in place. Teachers want to be able to work with academic freedom and LCEA always goes the “extra mile” for any teacher. And on a personal note, I want to thank B Grassel for always supporting me through the last few years.
